Note by Musical Director

Tatton Singers' annual Singing Days have attracted a great following amongst singers in the north-west. Two of the most successful (and best-attended) have been Handel's Dixit Dominus, (2016) and Vaughan Williams's A Sea Symphony, (2017). This year we shall be working on an equally fine piece – Cherubini's Requiem. In its own time this dramatic setting of the Requiem provoked very enthusiastic responses: Schumann, Berlioz and Brahms all spoke of it in glowing terms and Beethoven declared, 'if I were to write a Requiem, Cherubini's would be my only model,' – praise indeed! Subsequently this Requiem was performed at Beethoven's own funeral.
